ABOUT ABOUT

The Christman Opera Company invites you to a fundraising concert for HaitiChildren.

This event will feature some of the most talented rising stars of the opera stage singing various selections from the repertoire, including Kelly Griffin, soprano; Reyna Carguill, soprano; Madison Marie McIntosh, mezzo-soprano; Raymon Geis, tenor; and Steven LaBrie, baritone. The Music Director for our concert is Keith Chambers, the Artistic Director of New Amsterdam Opera. Three songs from the upcoming musical about the life and times of Susie Scott Krabacher, the founder of HaitiChildren, will also be premiered during the concert.

Susie is a dedicated humanitarian who has been at work for the last 25 years saving, sheltering, providing nutrition, and educating the orphaned, disabled, and impoverished children in Haiti.  Susie Krabacher’s early years when she endured child abuse and dealt with her mother’s mental illness are chronicled in her memoir, Angels of a Lower Flight.  Her heartbreaking and inspiring story tells how the pain in her past caused her to doubt if God really loved and protected her, but came full-circle to give thanks as she describes how her struggles to save the abandoned children in Haiti (the most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere) brought her back to God. In 1994 Susie visited Haiti with a friend from church and it changed her life forever. From the moment she stepped off the plane in Port-au-Prince, she knew Haiti would become her life’s work.   Twenty-five years later, Susie’s impact extends far beyond her initial vision. HaitiChildren (formerly Mercy & Sharing) has provided life’s basic needs to tens of thousands of Haitians and raised over $20 million -- every dollar of which has gone to serve Haiti’s most vulnerable.  This has become Susie’s mission:  to help a nation, one child at a time, and to let these kids know, “in this world, you are loved.”
